When Harvey Kulawitz needs a break from his personal injury law practice, the Connecticut lawyer doesn’t have to go far from his desk to relax.

The 54-year-old keeps an electronic piano in his Ridgefield office, and doesn’t hesitate to play a jazz tune or two when the mood strikes him. “I practice keyboard while I practice law,” he tells the Connecticut Law Tribune (sub. req.), noting that his music is a great icebreaker with clients who share his interest. (The same article can also be found on New York Lawyer, which only requires free registration.)

Outside the office, Kulawitz also plays in a quintet with another lawyer, real estate attorney Ken Ginsberg of Trumbull, Conn., and three other professionals.

Playing the piano “helps spark creative thoughts” and is a healthy activity, like tennis or golf, he tells the legal newspaper. “It’s a relief from the constant battles and tension of the law practice.”
