A defendant on home confinement while awaiting trial in a video gambling case can walk his daughter down the aisle during her August wedding, a federal judge in Chicago has decided.

But Casey Szaflarski can’t talk to the father of the groom, ruled U.S. District Judge Ronald Guzman. The limitation came in response to prosecution concerns that the event would provide an opportunity for Szlflarski to discuss mob business with Frank “Toots” Caruso, who is a reputed leader of the 26th Street crew, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The groom, Frank Caruso Jr., was convicted in a high-profile case involving the racially motivated 1997 beating of a 13-year-old that left the teen brain-damaged.

Attorney Catharine O’Daniel, who represents Szaflarski, pointed out that the FBI likely will be watching the wedding, the newspaper reports.
