Effective Aug. 31, Davis, Polk & Wardwell will close its 18-year-old office in Frankfurt. The decision was prompted by the imminent retirement of longtime partner Patrick Kenadjian.

London-based partner Harald Halbhuber had been designated as Kenadjian’s successor, but Halbhuber has decided to leave Davis Polk, the Am Law Daily reports.

“It’s a practice that, for quite a while, has been shared by London, and many clients of the firm work directly with the London team,” said Davis Polk managing partner John Ettinger. The Frankfurt office has traditionally focused on cross-border securities and mergers & acquisitions work. It is closely associated with the German corporate firm Hengeler Mueller, which made job offers to Davis Polk’s one of counsel and two associates at that office.
