Following the lead of several other well-known Wall Street law firms, Davis Polk & Wardwell announced that it is expanding its English law practice at the firm’s office in London.

Capital markets specialist Simon Witty of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer will join the London office in April, but it isn’t known whether he will bring associates with him from Freshfields, Legal Week reports.

The firm launched a Hong Kong practice in 2010 and opened in Brazil last year.

“The addition of English law capabilities to the firm’s long-established U.S. law practice in London is a strategically important step,” explains the firm in a Friday press release. “It enhances Davis Polk’s ability to serve its clients across the leading international legal systems in the world’s critical financial centers and also strengthens its core strategic focus on the needs of financial institution clients.

“Davis Polk had previously moved to offer clients Hong Kong and English legal advice in Hong Kong and São Paulo,” the release notes.

Davis Polk is expected to hire other lawyers to work in its London office, Legal Week says.
