Lawyer Hank Levine of Bethesda, Maryland, feels sorry for Chipotle, even though he is the one receiving misdirected text messages demanding free burritos from the restaurant chain.

Chipotle offered free burritos to those who texted “raincheck” to 888-222 by 6 p.m. Monday. Some hungry customers, however, added an extra “2” to the number and texted the message to Levine, report Tech Insider, ABC News and the Washington Post. Above the Law noted Levine’s predicament.

By the end of the day on Monday, Levine had received more than 200 texts from people in the 240 area code. Most understood that Levine couldn’t deliver on the burrito promise, but some were upset.

“This isn’t fit to print, but the text was essentially ‘Get me my bleeping burrito you bleeping burrito, or I’ll bleepity bleep you,’ ” he told the Washington Post.

Levine notes there could be other people who have an 888-2222 number with different area codes, and they could also be receiving misdirected texts. And he has some sympathy for Chipotle, which offered him coupons for free entrees as a result of the mix-up.

“I feel bad for Chipotle,” Levine told Tech Insider. “They’ve got all of southern Maryland thinking I’m giving out coupons for free burritos.”
