Dechert has laid off additional lawyers and staffers in a sixth round of cuts.

The law firm confirmed layoffs of “a number of people” in a statement made to the Legal Intelligencer. The publication says the firm’s largest round of layoffs was in March, when the firm laid off 63 lawyers and other time keepers and 62 administrative staffers.

The Dechert statement said: "We had laid off a number of people. These layoffs include attorneys from across several areas and offices at various experience levels. We have also laid off a number of staff. We are matching our resources to what we believe our needs will be going forward."

Above the Law was the first to report the layoffs.

Second half could well be as bad as the first.  Also, because of the added factor of concern for paying or not paying bonuses, the main wave will probably start to hit by September, instead of November/December like last year.  It is an odd (perhaps counterproductive) climate where “associates” who get close to their bonus targets before September will actually have to consider whether they are placing themselves in additional jeopardy of a preemptive layoff.
