Defendant argues, to no avail, that robbery case should be dropped because he was then in jail
One might think that being jailed at the time of an alleged mugging would provide a solid alibi.
But it wasn’t good enough to get a Maryland robbery case dismissed against 21-year-old Tyree Threatt, reports the Baltimore Sun.
Though his public defender, Nicholas Cooksley, presented records in court Monday that showed Threatt was in jail at the time of the June 27 robbery, the government argued that the issue should be determined at trial, the newspaper says. A judge apparently agreed, refusing to release Threatt, although his bail was reduced from $75,000 to $50,000.
After the newspaper asked Baltimore police about the case, however, the robbery case against Threatt was dismissed on Wednesday. It had been based on the victim’s selection of his picture from a photo lineup.
