Moments after being sentenced to 40 years in prison for aggravated assault for cutting his niece with a butcher knife, a Texas man slit his own throat this morning in a courtroom at the Dallas County Courthouse.

Marcial Anguiano survived and left the courtroom on a stretcher, talking, reports the Dallas Morning News.

“As soon as the judge sentenced him, I saw him do something with his right arm,” his attorney, Juan Sanchez, tells the newspaper. “I turned and he cut himself with something he had brought into the courtroom.”
