Defiant after a Tuesday disbarment ruling by an Arizona Supreme Court disciplinary panel, a former Maricopa County attorney said in a Wednesday press conference that he is an innocent victim of a corrupt political and legal system.

Andrew Thomas also complained that he wasn’t properly defended because the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, with which he has been at odds, interfered with his legal representation by firing his lawyers or refusing to pay them appropriately, according to the Arizona Capital Times (sub. req.), KTAR and the Republic.

“Someone has to fight for justice,” said Thomas, as he likened himself to Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.

He said he hasn’t yet decided whether to appeal the disbarment ruling, which takes effect May 10. However, he plans to write a book, for which he has a contract, and pursue a voter initiative to battle public corruption.
