In a Supreme Court race that featured attack ads portraying cash stashed in pants and attacks on personal-injury lawyers, Republican appeals court Judge Greg Guidry has claimed victory.

Guidry, a former federal prosecutor, defeated Jimmy Kuhn, another appeals judge who is also a Republican, the Times-Picayune reports.

An attack ad by a special interest group had linked Guidry to a former U.S. attorney who had failed to prosecute a state senator on corruption charges, 2TheAdvocate.com reports. The ad included footage that resembled a surveillance tape that depicted the state senator stuffing cash down his pants.

Another third-party ad supporting Guidry said he would rule against “greedy personal-injury lawyers who clog our courts with frivolous lawsuits,” the Times Picayune story says. During the campaign Guidry attacked Kuhn for leading a class action lawsuit over a 1982 train derailment.

Both lawyers decried the attack ads in a TV appearance.
