Dewey & Leboeuf announced today that three mergers & acquisitions partners from Cooley Godward Kronish will be joining its Silicon Valley office.

According to the Dewey press release, published by the Recorder, Richard E. Climan, who had headed Cooley’s mergers & acquisitions practice, will now take over Dewey’s and serve on its executive committee. Eric M. Reifschneider had headed Cooley’s technology transactions group, and the New York Times’ Dealbook calls Keith Flaum “a senior Cooley deal-maker.”

The Recorder called Dewey’s acquisition “a lateral move that can only be compared to an earthquake rocking Silicon Valley’s legal world.” Climan told Dealbook that the move wasn’t brough on by any problems with Cooley.

“Leaving Cooley is a very difficult decision,” Climan told Dealbook. “But we’re M&A lawyers, and we know how to do due diligence. And we believe Dewey offered a great opportunity.”

Yesterday, Dewey announced its hire of Marshall Stoddard, Mayer Brown’s global finance practice co-chair, as its new head of bank and institutional finance.
