This week, we wrote about a student at the University of San Diego School of Law who debated whether to risk having to miss some sessions of his tax law class—a class for which he knew attendance counted toward the grade—to participate in the World Series of Poker. The professor of the class, Paul Caron, reported on TaxProf Blog that the student went to the tournament and ultimately won $24,000, “which presumably took the sting out of missing three of my classes.”

What we’d like to hear from you: Have you ever made a conscious choice to skip a law class and had that decision bring excellent or disappointing results? Perhaps you missed the entertainment law class at Harvard the day Tom Cruise sat in or missed John Yoo getting punked by an Australian TV show during a lecture at Chapman University School of Law.

Read the answers to last week’s question (and there were many good ones): What’s the Biggest Intern Blunder You’ve Witnessed?

Featured answer:

Posted by TLee: “My friend went to a top tier ivy, the best intern story came from one of her classmates. The young summer associate in question got drunk at an event, and told a joke that featured incest, menstruation and pedophilia to a group of partners. The next day as they were trying to figure out how and when to end her summer, most of the partners were shocked when she brazenly suggested that since she was sleeping with the managing partner not only would she continue her summer, but she would receive an offer. Result: She received an offer, and the managing partner lost his management role when he had a physical altercation with the junior partner she was also sleeping with. How I love summertime when the living is easy.”
