Originally sentenced only to probation after he made restitution to 37 former clients from whom he was convicted of stealing $500,000, a disbarred Texas lawyer wound up serving a 10-year prison term after he violated probation by drinking and practicing law in his father’s office without a license.

Now, only months into the prison sentence, David Bonilla says he has learned his lesson and is seeking release on “shock” probation, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (sub. req.) reports.

In an affidavit attached to Bonilla’s petition to 319th District Judge David Stith, he says he realizes he has no one but himself to blame for the “horrific” conditions he is enduring in prison and misses his family terribly.
