Disbarred Lawyer Gets 15 Days; Feds Say He Tried to Bring 9mm Bullets Into Courthouse

A disbarred Kansas lawyer has been sentenced to 15 days, with credit for time served, and released, after allegedly trying to bring three 9mm bullets into the Hale Boggs Federal Courthouse in New Orleans.
After the ammo was found in a bag he was trying to bring into the courthouse on Jan. 20, prosecutors said Carlos Romious then told investigators the bullets were “for Jim Letten,” referring to the United States attorney, according to the Associated Press and the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Romious, 47, was convicted Monday on a charge of disrupting government employees in the performance of official duties.
Jan. 20 was an especially busy day at the courthouse because Occupy the Courts protests were taking place around the country and there was an invitation-only investiture ceremony for a new federal judge scheduled at the courthouse in New Orleans, the Times-Picayune explains. After the incident with Romious, at least 10 officers and a bomb-sniffing dog were deployed to search the courthouse, and nearby bushes and vehicles.
Prosecutors said Romious was disbarred in Kansas in 2010 after being criminally convicted of fighting with U.S. marshals there, the AP reports.
