Disbarred lawyer gets 30 years in attempted prosecutor hit, plus 8 in racketeering case plea
A disbarred Florida lawyer had a busy day in court on Monday.
First James Tipler, 62, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after his conviction last month by an Okaloosa County jury on two counts of solicitation to commit first-degree murder, according to WJHG and the Pensacola News Journal. He was acquitted on a third count.
Tipler was accused in that case of repeatedly attempting, while jailed, to put a contract hit on an assistant prosecutor pursuing a racketeering case against him. It concerned hundreds of thousands of dollars he was accused of stealing from clients while practicing law.
The prosecutor was not injured.
Then, after getting 30 years Monday morning, Tipler took a plea in the racketeering case Monday afternoon. He will get another 8-year prison term in that case that will run concurrently with the 30-year term, according to another Pensacola News Journal article.
