Disciplinary Board Accuses Judge of Chronic Tardiness

A Tennessee judge is facing legal ethics charges, in large part because the the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary says she is often late to court.

Davidson County General Sessions Judge Gloria Dumas is accused by a state discipline board of consistently arriving late to hear her 9 a.m. docket, thus forcing citizens to wait, and too-frequently making use of a state statute that permits a judge to appoint a replacement, on occasion, reports the Tennessean.

In its complaint against Dumas, a disciplinary panel of the Tennessee Court of the Judiciary also takes issue with the judge's hiring of her own daughter to work in her court.

The Nashville Post provides a link to the complaint (PDF) against the judge. The September case was announced today by the state's Administrative Office of the Courts.

Dumas declined to comment when contacted by the Post last night.

A pompous, overpaid judge, showing up when she wants?  I’m shocked!
