Washington, D.C., police are investigating the stabbing death of a DLA Piper associate.

David Messerschmitt, 30, had multiple stab wounds, report the Washington Post, the National Law Journal, Local 12, WCPO-TV and Above the Law. His body was discovered on Tuesday in a room at the Donovan, a boutique hotel.

Police are seeking a person of interest recorded on hotel video Monday evening.

DLA Piper removed Messerschmitt’s biography from its website, but Above the Law linked to a cached version. He joined the firm in April 2014 as an intellectual property associate who negotiated technology and commercial agreements. He previously worked at Mayer Brown.

DLA Piper said in a statement that it was cooperating with the police investigation. “This is an extremely tragic situation and we send our sincere condolences to David’s family,” the law firm said.

Messerschmitt is survived by his wife, Kim Vuong, according to WCPO-TV.
