Tony Angel will be leading DLA Piper as global co-chairman after a vote of the law firm’s partners over the last two weeks.

Angel was a former managing partner of Linklaters, as well as former executive managing director of Standard & Poors. He will manage the firm along with Frank Burch Jr.

DLA Piper is already the largest law firm in the world by head count. Burch tells the Am Law Daily that Angel’s appointment is a sign the firm isn’t done growing.

Burch acknowledged it’s unusual for law firms to hire laterally for top managers, but says DLA didn’t see the need to cling to the old way of doing things. “It’s not very instructive to look at what firms have done in the past because we think the profession is undergoing radical segmentation and evolution,” Burch tells the publication.
