DLA Piper is asking its partners to approve a new global co-chairman for the firm—Tony Angel, the former managing partner of Linklaters.

Angel would begin work at DLA Piper on Nov. 7, where he would share leadership responsibilities with Frank Burch Jr., report Thomson Reuters News & Insight and Legal Week.

Angel was managing partner at Linklaters from 1998 to 2007. He boosted profits by 108 percent in three years and helped make Linklaters one of the most profitable law firms in the world, Thomson Reuters says.

The Lawyer calls the acquisition “one of the most sensational lateral hires in the legal market.” Thomson Reuters says appointing an outsider to a top leadership position in a law firm is “virtually unheard of.”
