Pro bono work can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life for a lawyer.

ABA Model Rule 6.1 says: “Every lawyer, regardless of professional prominence or professional workload, has a responsibility to provide legal services to those unable to pay.”

So much so that there’s an annual national celebration of pro bono that’s kicking off from Oct. 20 to 26, called the National Celebration of Pro Bono. The event this year will highlight the need for legal assistance for domestic and sexual violence survivors.

This week, we’d like to ask: Do you or your firm have activities planned for the National Celebration of Pro Bono? If so, what are they? And how have you been using your legal skills to pay it forward?

“Brand-new to the legal field but firm believer that disorders and treatments are compatible from profession to profession. Getting to the point, living a balanced life with the proper amount of sleep, exercise, water and nutrition helps immensely. The ‘proper amount’ is different for everyone, but one can be out of balance with too much or too little. Too much sleep or exercise can have a detrimental effect on the body, as can little. Finally, correcting one area can help others. For example, eating less fast food and exercising a small amount helps with sleep quality and, thus, less sleep is needed. If you aren’t feeling good or great most of the time, do something different, anything different. Start small and work on what you can, if nothing works, seek help. Life is too short to live unhappy.”
