The Nevada Supreme Court has been asked to determine whether a judge or the adoptive parents of a 32-year-old mentally disabled woman who became pregnant while living in a group home should be the decision-maker concerning whether or not she has an abortion.

The woman’s parents and guardians, William and Amy Bauer, who are Catholic, say it is their role to decide what is appropriate for their daughter. Washoe County District Judge Egan Walker wants the supreme court to authorize him to hold hearings and determine whether or not Elizabeth E. Bauer should get an abortion, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

Doctors say the pregnancy puts her life at risk. The Bauers say their daughter wants to continue with the pregnancy. But the Washoe County Public Guardian’s Office says she isn’t sure.
