Dog Law Can Pay in Kibble, But Offers Other Benefits
It isn’t likely to be the most lucrative of law practices. But representing animals and their owners is a growing field due in part to the satisfaction that the job can offer.
Among those who have made it a big part of their professional lives is Texas attorney Zandra Anderson, who markets her legal services to dog owners and says she has, on occasion, been paid in kibble, reports the Houston Chronicle.
Awareness of animal rights and concerns is growing, and this also is contributing to the growth of the practice area for those who are alert to such issues, according to professor Fran Ortiz of South Texas College of Law.
“In probate it might be a pet trust, in divorce it might be a custody issue, in landlord-tenant it might be a change of ownership. It can be whistle-blower about conditions at a meat plant. You can pull animal law into your practice in all kinds of ways,” she tells the newspaper.
