One of the largest law firms in central California has laid off 11 administrative and support staff members.

The last time Downey Brand let workers go was in 2009, when it laid off 14, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.

Partner Chris Delfino, a member of the executive committee, told the business publication that lawyers do more of their own work due to the availability of electronic technology, and Downey Brand is trying to staff its offices as efficiently as possible to offer value to clients.

“We continue to look at all our business operations and attempt to align our staff with the workload,” he said. “Some attorneys have retired; some have gone elsewhere.”

The Sacramento-based firm has more than 120 lawyers in five offices in California and Reno, Nev.
