A group of trademark, copyright and unfair competition lawyers from the imploding Dreier law firm is leaving for New York's Olshan Grundman Frome Rosenzweig & Wolosky.
Steven R. Gursky, whose practice centers on anti-counterfeiting in the apparel industry, is leading the move, the National Law Journal (reg. req.) reports.
The acquisition by the midsized Olshan Grundman means the firm will beef up its IP, litigation and real estate practices. The firm is known primarily for providing counsel on corporate and securities law, real estate, litigation and bankruptcy and creditors' rights.
The Dreier firm has been in a tailspin since Canadian authorities arrested Marc Dreier in early December. Dreier, the sole equity partner of the now-bankrupt Dreier firm, is accused of stealing some $390 million, largely by persuading hedge funds to invest in worthless forged debt instruments supported by fraudulent financial documents. He has been accused of swindling two hedge funds of $113 million since October.
