A patent lawyer with Drinkle Biddle & Reath flaunted his knowledge at a Paul Simon concert Wednesday, but his demonstration had nothing to do with infringement or licensing.

Instead Paul Fournier, who is of counsel with the firm, showed his familiarity with Paul Simon lyrics.

According to the Washington Post’s Reliable Source blog, Fournier shouted out the first lines of the song “Gumboots” when Simon appeared to have difficulty remembering the words. Simon invited Fournier to join him on stage to sing the song, and Fournier obliged. The 42-year-old lawyer “pretty much stole the show,” the story says.

Fournier told a Post reporter at the concert that he became a Paul Simon fan as a young boy when his parents made him listen to “I Am a Rock” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
