Duke University has announced an expanded program of federal loan-repayment assistance for law graduates in public service positions.

Those making as much as $75,000 annually now qualify for help, up from $35,000 previously, reports the Triangle Business Journal. (A sliding scale applies to those earning between $60,000 and $75,000.)

And a lifetime cap of $80,000 has been eliminated.

“During a time of economic uncertainty, when our graduates often carry considerable student loan debt, the law school seeks to make good on its commitment to helping our graduates serve in the public interest,” says Dean David Levi of the university’s school of law in a written statement provided to the publication. “The expansion of our Loan Repayment Assistance Program program does just that.”

A law school Web page provides further details about the program. For those who wish to participate, there is a June 1 application deadline.
