Detroit-based Dykema Gossett is acquiring a 118-attorney Texas firm, effective May 1.

The merger with Cox Smith will more than quadruple Dykema’s 27-attorney roster in the state. It will also increase the total number of lawyers in the 330-attorney firm by nearly one-third, in addition to providing a new office in San Antonio, according to Crain’s Detroit Business and the San Antonio Express-News.

“One of our most strategic objectives as a firm has been to grow in Texas … because of what we see as a tremendous opportunity the state holds in terms of its pro-business environment and the growth that it has enjoyed,” said Peter Kellett, the Dykema firm’s chairman and chief executive officer. “The expanded platform just does that for us in a big way.”

Dykema currently has 12 offices. They include five in Michigan, two in Illinois and offices in Austin and Dallas, Texas, as well as a presence in Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Washington, D.C.

A law firm press release provides additional details about the merger.
