Boston-based Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge has opened an office in Los Angeles, the National Law Journal reports.
“This office is being opened because a specific client has asked us to do a specific kind of litigation in California," managing partner Walter Reed told the NLJ. He also said the firm is looking to add new California clients as well as up to three lawyers in its litigation, insurance and reinsurance, and public finance practices.
Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan just announced that it is acquiring eight lawyers from Los Angeles-based Atkins & Evans to open an office in Los Angeles. And eight other law firms have opened Los Angeles-area offices in the past eight months, despite the economic downturn: Blank Rome; Snell & Wilmer; Alston & Bird; Lathrop & Gage; Brooks Kushman; Gilbert Oshinsky; Constangy, Brooks & Smith; and Haynes and Boone.
Edwards Angell laid off 25 lawyers and 35 staff members in March.
