A riveting book proposal by a onetime aide to John Edwards offers a number of behind-the-scenes insights into recent presidential campaigns. Among them, according to Andrew Young: now-President Barack Obama promised he would appoint Edwards to be the U.S. attorney general if he didn’t make Edwards his vice presidential running mate for the 2008 campaign.

This of course was before news broke of the affair that Edwards had with a campaign videographer, Rielle Hunter. The proposal, which has just been accepted by St. Martin’s Press, also says Edwards and Hunter made a sex tape, reports the New York Daily News, relying on an unidentified source who has reportedly seen the proposal.

The newspaper says Young’s agent declined to speak with the Daily News, an assistant for Edwards didn’t respond to an e-mailed request for comment and Hunter couldn’t be reached.
