Eight Fortune 500 CEOs Are Harvard Law Alums; Five Went to Lower-Ranked Schools
Harvard is apparently the top feeder law school for Fortune 500 CEOs.
U.S. News took a look at the educational backgrounds of Fortune 500 CEOs and found that 46 have law degrees. Eight graduated from Harvard Law School, while three each attended law school at Columbia University, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Virginia.
Five law grads managed to become CEOs at Fortune 500 companies even though they graduated from schools that aren’t ranked among the top 100 by U.S. News.
One of them, Richard Anderson of Delta Air Lines, has a degree from South Texas College of Law; U.S. News didn’t publish its rank. Two have law degrees from West Virginia University (tied for 101st place), while the other two graduated from law school at Villanova University (also tied for 101st) and the University of Akron (ranked 119th).
Only one of the 46 CEOs with JDs also had an LLM: He’s Michael Roth of Interpublic Group, with a JD from Boston University and an LLM from New York University.
