Entertainment lawyer takes plea in weapon-possession case
An entertainment lawyer has pleaded guilty to a single third-degree felony count of weapon possession after an incident last year at his parents’ home in an upscale suburb of New York City.
Randall Cutler took the plea Tuesday in Westchester County Court in White Plains. Although the charge carries a maximum sentence of seven years, he is expected to get less than a year of jail time and probation when he is sentenced in January, according to the Journal News and the White Plains Daily Voice reports.
The articles don’t include any comment from Cutler or his counsel. However, he told the ABA Journal last year that he was not the aggressor in the argument with his brother that led to Bronxville police being called and insisted that he has never purchased a firearm illegally.
Police saw the situation differently. They charged only Cutler after obtaining a search warrant and seizing what were described as multiple firearms, including several handguns, an AK-47, a rifle, a sawed-off shotgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
