Eric Holder Speaks at Lavender Law Conference, Seeks Help from LGBT Lawyers

Eric Holder, speaking Thursday at the LGBT Bar Association’s Lavender Law Conference, told the Washington, D.C., audience that they are responsible for helping the Obama administration continue its quest for gay equality.
The U.S. attorney general was a keynote speaker at the event, the Washington Blade reports. To an audience of approximately 1,000 people, Holder mentioned some of the administration’s successes, including the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and ending the legal defense of the Defense of Marriage Act .
During his speech, Holder noted that his audience was “uniquely situated to use the power of the law” regarding LGBT issues, according to the Blade.
“And you have not only the power, but – I believe – the solemn responsibility, to do precisely that: to safeguard the rights and freedoms of everyone in this country, and to carry on the critical but unfinished work that lies ahead,” Holder said.
