A New York ethics opinion says a judge may submit to an interview for an “inspirational story” about judges who have made certain personal grooming decisions.

The New York Law Journal says the ethics opinion was recently released, although it is dated Jan. 29, 2009. The judge, who wasn’t identified, asked the Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics whether it was permissible for judges to be interviewed for the article in a commercial online magazine about judges “who have chosen to present themselves in a certain way.”

The opinion added that the judges should not endorse “any particular hair care product or process.”
