Ex-CIA Director Dulles, a One-Time BigLaw Lawyer, Had at Least 100 Affairs, His Sister Has Said
David Petraeus isn’t the only CIA director who had an affair.
The New York Times has an opinion column on a predecessor, one-time Sullivan & Cromwell lawyer Allen Dulles, who had at least a hundred affairs, according to his sister, Eleanor. “Indeed,” the article says, “the contrast between Dulles’ story and that of Mr. Petraeus reflects how fully the life of public servants has changed in the United States.”
Dulles headed the CIA between 1953 to 1961 and was “a serial adulterer” whose affairs were legendary, says the column by Stephen Kinzer, author of a forthcoming book on Dulles. While in office, the CIA director’s conduct was well-known but the press didn’t report on it because journalists at the time considered it not newsworthy. Allen Dulles died in 1969.
