The Mississippi Supreme Court has reprimanded a former judge for public comments he made about “white folks.”

The court said removal from office would have been an appropriate punishment for the judge, Solomon Osborne of Leflore County, if he had not resigned last year, the National Law Journal reports.

Osborne was accused of making this statement: “White folks don’t praise you unless you’re a damn fool. Unless they think they can use you. If you have your own mind and know what you’re doing, they don’t want you around.”

The supreme court said in its opinion released last week that the comments were prejudicial to the administration of justice and brought the office of judge into disrepute.
