Trial Lawyer Convicted with 6 Others in 'Outlaw Biker' Federal Racketeering Case
A trial lawyer in Gary, Ind., has been convicted of conspiracy, along with six co-defendants, in a federal racketeering case in St. Louis over their alleged activities in what prosecutors called an “outlaw biker” gang.
Jerry Peteet, 49, who previously served as the lawyer for the Wheels of Soul motorcycle club, was also convicted Friday of attempted murder, and one of his co-defendants was convicted of murder, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The newspaper says authorities accused Peteet of trying to shoot Robert Taylor in a restaurant parking lot in Gary on May 28, 2009.
Peteet’s lawyer, Darnail Lyles, told the Post-Tribune on Friday that his client is “greatly disappointed because he didn’t shoot Mr. Taylor.”
Peteet was taken into custody and will be sentenced at a later date.
