Two former legal aid lawyers in Dallas claim in a lawsuit that their one-time employer illegally recorded one of their phone conversations with a co-worker.

The suit against Legal Aid of Northwest Texas and two of its executives doesn’t disclose the nature of the conversation, but alleges it was used in an attempt to discipline the lawyers, Texas Lawyer reports.

The plaintiffs, Kervyn Altaffer Jr. and Sophia Katherine Palat, say the recording violates the Texas Wiretap Act and the organization’s own employee manual.

The lawyers said they quit work at the legal aid office after they learned of the recording. They now practice together at Altaffer & Palat in Austin.
