Ex-Prosecutor Convicted of Official Misconduct in Sex-for-Leniency Case Is Disbarred
Convicted earlier this year on a criminal official misconduct charge and sentenced to probation, a former Tennessee prosecutor has now been disbarred.
John Douglas Godbee was accused by a female defendant and the woman’s mother of seeking a sexual relationship with the younger woman in exchange for favorable treatment in the criminal case while working as an assistant Hawkins County district attorney. He pleaded no contest to the official misconduct charge on Oct. 1 and was sentenced to two years of supervised probation, as a WJHL article details.
Last week, in a brief order (PDF), the Tennessee Supreme court disbarred Godbee and ordered him to pay a little over $5,600 in costs.
