Ex-Weil Gotshal Lawyer Decided There Was More to Life After ‘Messy’ Case
A former partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges began to explore volunteer opportunities after working on a complicated case, eventually landing him a new role as general counsel for a music school in Washington, D.C.
Stanley Spracker told the Washington Post about his career switch from partner to volunteer to general counsel for the Levine School of Music.
“A big, long, messy, complicated case had me living in California for almost a year,” he recalled. “On a visit back to the District, I realized there had to be more to life than just being a lawyer. I loved what I did but I knew it was time for me to give back. I began to explore volunteer life.”
He joined the board of the Levine School. “I had been enjoying this volunteer life so much, I thought there was a second act for me professionally,” he told the Post. “I thought a change from being a lawyer in a private practice to the nonprofit world could be an exciting adventure. It has been. Fundamentally, I am an advocate for the school. I no longer bill my time for it because it comes from the heart. I see how being an advocate for something you care passionately about is one of life’s great rewards.”
