Ex-White House Lawyer Accused of Strangling Wife Now Faces a Civil Suit
The former White House lawyer charged with attempted murder and strangulation in an alleged attack on his wife is now also a defendant in a civil suit she has filed.
The suit by Mary Farren, a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, seeks $30 million from her husband, John Michael Farren, the Danbury News Times reports.
John Michael Farren, a onetime general counsel at Xerox Corp., was accused earlier this month of beating his wife with a flashlight, causing her to temporarily lose consciousness, and then choking her. Mary Farren had told police she was attacked after filing for divorce because of her husband’s temper. She said she escaped after pressing a panic button that called police.
The suit filed last week in state court in Stamford, Conn., says Mary Farren is injured and cannot work and seeks a $30 million prejudgment remedy. Mary Farren does not want her husband to use their assets to post bond, the suit says. Assets cited in the suit include a $4 million home and several bank accounts, including one with $1.8 million and another with $1 million.
