Ex-associate settles lurid sex-harassment suit against law firm
A former associate’s lurid sexual harassment claims against a partner in a New York law firm have been resolved by a settlement on confidential terms.
The case, described by Above the Law as a modern-day version of Thomas Hardy’s classic novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles. “Like the classic novel, her lawsuit told the tale of a destitute and desperate young woman preyed upon by a rich and powerful man,” David Lat wrote when the case was first filed. The case resulted in a $140,000 federal jury award earlier this year. Both plaintiff Alexandra Marchuk and the defendants, Faruqi & Faruqi and partner Juan Monteverde, proclaimed victory at that time.
It reached its final resolution Monday with a sign-off by the New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on the parties’ joint stipulation of dismissal, Law 360 (sub. req.) reports.
