A former Nevada attorney who lost his law license after being convicted of three felonies in connection with a 2009 traffic stop in which he was shot by a Las Vegas police officer was sentenced Thursday to five years of probation, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

While still admitted to practice, Raymond James “Jim” Duensing, 38, ran unsuccessfully in November as a Libertarian against the incumbent Clark County district attorney, who heads the office in charge of prosecuting Duensing’s criminal case.

During today’s hearing, Judge Michelle Leavitt also ordered Duensing to have a mental health exam and abstain from drinking and drug use, the newspaper reports.
