Barry Richard, the lawyer who represented President Bush in election recount lawsuits, will use a dinner speech to blast the administration.

Richard, of Greenberg Traurig, told the National Law Journal he will protest the erosion of civil liberties when he speaks to the National Association of Former U.S. Attorneys.

“I’m sure people will see my name on the program and expect I will be defending the administration,” he told the NLJ. “But I’m a constitutional lawyer. I am concerned with the Bush administration’s assault on American liberties … how the administration deals with habeas corpus and the administration’s posture on electronic surveillance. This administration has gone farther than any other.”

A made-for-cable movie on the recount is being made near Richard’s Tallahassee law office. An extra who delivers only one line depicts him in the move, WJHG.com reports. Laura Dern plays Florida’s secretary of state and Kevin Spacey plays the former chief of staff to vice president Al Gore.
