Already sentenced in September to 50 years in a state-court child-rape case, a former South Dakota county prosecutor pleaded guilty on Tuesday in a federal child-pornography case that involved abuse of a client’s children.

Christopher Jansen, 35, even used the one boy’s photo as an avatar on a website that distributes child pornography, a Department of Justice news release says.

Jansen, who served as Walworth County state’s attorney from about 2009 to 2012, reportedly met the boy and befriended his family while working on family law matters, apparently while a private practitioner in Mobridge.

A redacted factual statement (PDF) provides additional details.

During Jansen’s sentencing in the earlier state-court case, his lawyer argued that he should get a five-year prison term and treatment for mental illness he suffered following his own abuse, as a child, by a family member, the Mobridge Tribune reported.

Jansen was disbarred in August, the Black Hills Pioneer reported at the time.
