FAA Probes Take-Child-to-Work Day—in JFK Control Tower
The Federal Aviation Administration announced today that two control tower employees at John F. Kennedy International Airport are on administrative leave after an incident last month in which a young-sounding child was taped directing air traffic, according to the Aerospace News blog of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Although the child apparently was acting under an adult’s direction, “this lapse in judgment not only violated FAA’s own policies, but commonsense standards for professional conduct,” says FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt in a press release. “These kinds of distractions are totally unacceptable.”
A CNN article about the incident includes a link to the audiotape. It says Dave Pascoe, who owns the liveatc.net website on which the recording is posted, believes the situation has been blown way out of proportion.
