A California lawyer with no prior disciplinary history was put on probation for a year by attorney licensing authorities after admittedly calling 911 and falsely reporting that his opposing counsel in a family law matter had driven away from a hearing while drunk.

The opposing counsel, who is not named in the California Bar Journal report (scroll down) of the discipline against Franz Andre-Marie Criego, 61, was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol with the help of the license plate number Criego provided.

The article doesn’t explain how authorities determined that Criego was responsible for the false report.
