A rapidly expanding Kansas City-based law firm known for its litigation work is opening a new office, as of March 1, by acquiring a 25-attorney Chicago litigation boutique.

The nearly 475-attorney Shook Hardy & Bacon announced on Tuesday that it is acquiring Grippo & Elden.

The Chicago outpost will be the fourth new location for Shook Hardy in three years: It opened offices in Denver last year; in Philadelphia in 2012; and in Seattle in 2013. Another eight offices are located in California (Orange County and San Francisco); Florida (Miami and Tampa); Houston; Washington, D.C.; Geneva and London.

The Chicago Tribune and the Kansas City Star have stories.

Grippo partner Todd Jacobs will serve as chief of the new Chicago office and Grippo partner Michael Conway will be vice chairman of Shook’s business litigation and corporate services practice group.
