A father and son who are simultaneously serving as district attorney in their respective counties are reportedly the first in their state to do so.

Chris Boring was still in college at Oklahoma State University when his dad, Mike Boring, was elected DA of the Oklahoma Panhandle in 2002. But more than a decade later, Mike Boring, now 64, says he still loves his job. That helped inspire his son, now 34, to follow in his footsteps, the Oklahoman reports.

After becoming an assistant district attorney in Woodward, Oklahoma, in 2011, Chris Boring sought and recently won election to District 26. His father is the DA in nearby District 1. Now one of the best parts of the job, the two say, is being able to talk about work issues with each other.

“There’s always something unique or something you haven’t dealt with come up, and it’s nice to have a well-respected and experienced district attorney you can call and bounce things off of,” Chris Boring told the newspaper. “It just so happens to be my father.”
