Father Who Told 911 He Beat Man He Saw Raping His Daughter Is Not Charged in Death
A Texas man who told a 911 dispatcher he needed an ambulance for a man he beat for raping his 5-year-old daughter won’t be charged in the death that resulted.
A grand jury in Lavaca County did not return an indictment against the man, who is not named in stories by CNN, the San Antonio Express-News and the Associated Press. The alleged molester, Jesus Mora Flores, died before emergency crews arrived.
The incident occurred earlier this month near Shiner, Texas, at the family’s ranch during a horse shoeing, CNN says. The alleged molester had been hired to help with the horses, according to AP and the News-Express. A witness told the father he saw Flores carrying the girl, and the father ran toward his screaming child. When the father saw the man molesting his daughter, the father pulled the man away and beat him with his fists, police say.
CNN cites portions of the father’s 911 call. “I need an ambulance. This guy was raping my daughter and I beat him up. And I don’t know … I don’t know what to do,” the father said. At another point he screams, “Come on! This guy is going to die on me!”
Lavaca County District Attorney Heather McMinn said forensic evidence and witness statements supported the father’s story, according to AP and the News-Express. “Under the law, deadly force is justified to stop a sexual assault,” she said at a news conference. “All the evidence indicated that is what was occurring.”
