Federal Jury Convicts Attorney and His Mom of Lying in Law Office Tax Case Launched By His Ex-Wife
After a five-week trial and two days of deliberation, a federal jury in Columbus has found an Ohio attorney and his mother guilty of lying to a grand jury in a law office tax case launched by his now ex-wife during a bitter divorce.
Aristotle R. Matsa, 55, also was convicted of filing fraudulent income tax returns, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
He and his mother, Loula Z. Matsa, will be sentenced at a later date.
Internal Revenue Service agents determined that he paid only $107 in federal income tax between 1993 and 2002, even though he had both a law firm and an architecture firm, the newspaper reports.
